There is something that has been on our minds. It’s our history, as THE STIFF WIRES.
What people need to understand about our history, and all of the things it took leading up to who The Stiff Wires are now, is that we had a lead singer and songwriter for a long time, and he quit. The reason I emphasize he is to make it apparent to all of the people who seem to hold a grudge against The Stiff Wires, for something we had no control over.
He wrote great songs, he was an entertaining front man, and for a long time the main face of the Stiff Wires. During the months leading up to his departure, disagreements and conflicts with the direction of the band began to unearth themselves, creating rifts between us, which ended with him leaving the band.
He decided that he no longer saw what he wanted coming from this band, and decided that it was not the band that he wanted to be in anymore. He was not pushed out; there were no plans in The Stiff Wires becoming a 4 piece.
Now we understand why he felt the need to leave. We do understand that! What people need to understand is why we decided to keep on pursuing our goals after he left. We were always brothers, as far as we saw it, so one leaving was a shock, and we didn't know how to handle it at first. However as we talked about what had happened the day after we got the news, we decided that these things happen, people fall out of interest; but the remaining 4 STILL (and to this day still) LOVE to play music, and hang out with each other, and going on road trips to shows. Hanging out at shows at home, or just sitting around each others houses listening to records, is some of the greatest memories we have together. WHY would we throw that away?
Furthermore it takes a long time to find the band that works, to find the key guitarists, bassists and drummers, who make melodies and small parts you write alone in your room, turn into something you could have never loved more, it’s magical. Why would we throw that away? Why should we be asked to?
That is what we have as a band, and that is why we continue to do what we love with the people we love to do it with. (We totally fucking do!) We kept the name as any band that has ever lost just one member would do and has done, as the band did not stop functioning altogether. Punk bands are subject to go through several line-up changes, but still remain under the same moniker.
What people need to pay attention to is, that although we did keep the name we ARE a completely new band, we do not play the songs we didn't write as they don't represent us it's not our voice. Although we take pride in our past, that's not the band we are anymore. We have a full set of new and exciting songs that are our voice that we are VERY proud of, as they truly express how we’ve grown and how we feel! For so long as the back drop to the show, we are now a unified front. We have more pride and confidence in what we are doing now, than we ever have before. Our focus is fully in view of what we want. In addition we have a solid plan and are letting nothing stand in our way of taking charge and achieving our goals. Oh ya’ we have goals!
So as it stands, we move on, we won't back down, and we won't go away. If it makes your life more interesting to buy into the bullshit or hold a grudge and talk the shit, it's all Talk, Talk, Talk a shameless plug for a new song which will probably appear on our upcoming release, and written just for all of those who really don't have a clue.
So feed us to the lions if you must and we will come out unscathed. We still wish nothing but the best for our former front person and friend! Whether the feeling is mutual or not, we just don’t know. With the full expectation that he will come back out with another band, and write the songs that the people who hate us for carrying on with out him want to hear, we have nothing but best wishes for him.
There are no bitter feelings from The Stiff Wires, as there is nothing to feel bitter about. The whole situation made us realize why we had any interest to even join a band to begin with: Make the music you'd love to hear, with your best friends. We would never have it any other way.
